Curved link pedestrian bridge to a shopping centre

Westfield Hornsby

Project : THA was subcontracted to Westfields Construction to design and document the glass bridge linking the 2 recently completed shopping centres. The curve paid homage to the water feature in the centre of the existing plaza.

The structure was a large curved box girder in the roof space where hangers suspended a lightweight floor.  It was enclosed with a glass curtain wall supported of the steel hangers by ‘spider’ fixings with some operable windows. This was the first time Westfield had ever used frameless glass and approval need to come from the very top before it was allowed. From this time on, Westfield has used a lot of frameless glass in their latter projects!
